Tunnels, being one of the transport means passing through rivers, lakes and seas more rapidly and safely, have such advantages as being unaffected by adverse climate, rain and winds, waves and currents, ice packs and heavy fogs. The paper gives a brief introduction to the major principle and technology of construction of submerged tubular tunnels and the present situation of submerged tubular tunnels in various countries and regions in the world. The paper also makes an expounding on the development tendency of submerged tubular tunnels.
