The paper describes the application of vacuum preloading in combination with surcharge preloading to improve soft soils for large working load in the storage area of Phase Ⅱ of Nanjiang Coal Terminal of Tianjin Port.Analysis is made on the result of the improvement and it is concluded that the technique of vacuum proloading in combination with surcharge preloading can be used to improve soft soils for large working load and the result can be remarkable.
