In this paper the still water resistance and wave resistance performance of work ships with notches are studied by
model tests. The results show significant increase in still water resistance when there are notches in bow and stern, but no
obvious effect on wave augmented resistance. Both model test and full scale test prove that twin rudders deflecting certain angle
when this kind of work ships sail can improve the speed significantly. It is an effective energy-saving measure.
