Abstract：During the construction of asphalt pavements，the construction period is often extended and the cost is increased
due to the rejection of aggregate as the water absorption of asphalt aggregate exceeds the standard requirements. The paper
conducts a theoretical study and experimental research，on the basis of which, indexes such as soundness are proposed for
comprehensive evaluation of the usability of aggregate with excessive water absorption and the applicable conditions for this
type of aggregate and the keys in quality control of construction of asphalt pavements are analyzed，which have been em原
ployed and verified in actual engineering works.
