Abstract:The earthquake resistance of the block quay wall was relatively weak and the residual deformation, the maximum
of the equivalent stress and the sliding and overturning stability of the block quay wall under the static loading were firstly
analyzed. Furthermore, the pseudo static method and the dynamic history analysis were respectively employed to derive the
lateral seismic inertia force, the horizontal and vertical deformation, the maximum of equivalent stress, the stability against
sliding and overturning. The results of analyses indicated that more attention have to be paid to the horizontal deformation and
the settlement displacement when a rare earthquake occurs, besides the sliding and overturning stability. The block quay wall
which was designed with the current standards and criteria will sustain some damage under strong ground motion.
